Careers
Our mission is to develop the spiritual, relational, and physical potential of young people through sail training, shipboard life and associated activities in a Christian environment. Our core values are faith, integrity, and community. If you are passionate about our mission and values, consider joining our team!Office Openings:
None at this time (we are in the hiring process for a Communication and Fund Manager but the application deadline has now passed).Professional Crew Openings:
We accept applications from anyone, but we prefer to hire individuals who have previously served as volunteer crew-members and/or have substantial experience as trainees in our program. Such people are therefore familiar with our program and have proven their capabilities. Though technical skills and seamanship have a high priority in some jobs, the ability to work with young people, to spend time with them and respond to their spiritual needs is vital in all positions. Salaries for entry-level crew positions are low and not commensurate with long hours and hard work. Prior to the start date, all new crew-members must complete a Marine Emergency Duties course, first aid course, VHF radio license, criminal record check, and a Christian statement of faith/code of conduct. All positions require a certain level of achievement in the SALTS sail training program. Depending on which current crew-members decide to return in 2013, available positions may include:- Bosun, February-October 2013: requires sailing, rigging, and engine maintenance experience; possible contract extension for winter ship maintenance work in the shipyard
- Cook, February-October 2013: cooking for 30-40 people four times daily; Foodsafe course required prior to start date
- Watch Officer, February-October 2013: sailing and leadership experience required; possible contract extension for winter ship maintenance work in the shipyard

| Through this experience I realized what I love to do and how my life was heading down a wrong path. When things went wrong I would do negative things to help me get through them but with this experience it showed me how hard work and learning made me feel so much better. I learned so many new things from the people on the ship and became close with people I never expected to even talk to. I had confidence when I expected to feel embarrassed and felt empowered by the knowledge I had gained. This trip meant the world to me and I hope though what I have learned that I will be able to re-evaluate my life. |
