Day Sails for All Ages
Each spring and fall we offer several opportunities to participate in morning or afternoon sailings aboard one of our tall ships. The Pacific Swift and the Pacific Grace set sail just outside Victoria’s harbour and give participants of all ages a taste of our wonderful sail training program. Those on board learn about and participate in all aspects of sailing the ship. Anyone under age 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Day Sail schedule and registration details for each year are announced in the January edition of our Saltings newsletter and here on our website.DATES:
- Sunday, September 5, 2010 (mid morning to mid afternoon) aboard Pacific Grace or Pacific Swift; FULL but register to join the waiting list
- Friday June 10, 2011 (both ships) Registration opens February 2011
- Sunday, September 4, 2011 (both ships) Registration opens February 2011

CANCELLATIONS: Please provide as much notice as possible if you must cancel, and no less than 48 hours notice. It would be a shame for your berth to go empty because we do not have time to fill it.
BRING: A camera, good footwear, and several layers of warm clothing. It is usually much cooler on the water than at the dock. Smoking and alcohol are not permitted aboard. Cell phones and other electronic devices should be turned off and put away for the duration of the sailing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: No previous sailing experience is necessary, but all hands will be required to actively participate in sailing the ship under the direction of the crew. Sailing with SALTS is a safe activity for anyone who is physically agile and alert. However, situations may arise where there are erratic and heaving motions of the deck, slippery conditions on deck and moving parts of the ship’s rigging. These situations require a certain level of active involvement on the part of each participant. In addition, every person on board must have the physical strength to be able to climb the ship’s companionway ladders (8’ high) while the ship is in motion, and participate in hauling lines to set sail. It may be necessary to use footholds and arm strength to climb over the side of the ship to board or disembark at a dock or if utilizing the ship’s dories. Motion sickness may occur. For safety reasons, people not meeting these physical requirements will not be allowed to participate in the voyage, and should not register for the voyage. Please call our office at 250.383.6811 if you have questions.
COST : One Day Sail per year is free for all SALTS members. Non-members can become members for $35 per person or $70 per nuclear family (per year) and participate in Day Sails on that basis. Membership supports our mission to help young people grow and develop!
