Sea Cadet sailing March 2010 by Loren
The Power of Two

SALTS has developed an innovative partnership with Power to Be Adventure Therapy, another dynamic local charity. Young people living with a disability and at-risk young people will get a chance to sail aboard Pacific Grace from March 29-April 1. Both organizations have invested heavily in the planning and staffing of the voyage. Trip fees have been paid for in full by the SALTS bursary fund! SALTS is seeking to fundraise $35000 for bursaries this year.

Our Vision and Plans for SALTS
"We will deepen our impact on young people and generate a sustainable, vibrant future for our crews, shipyard, and ships."

We will...
    • better equip and develop our crews to implement an intentional "life training" program
    • test-pilot a new "trip journal" to prepare trainees for the growth they will experience and encourage them to write about and remember that growth
    • host trainee reunion events in Victoria to extend and deepen our mentoring connection with local young people
    • engage young people in shipyard projects related to the maintenance of our tall ships
    • conduct recurring offshore voyages every three to five years
    • offer an annual sailing for individual young people during BC spring break week
    • ensure that we continue to have a suitable shipyard and office facility
    • build another tall ship when the right window of opportunity arrives
    • free up more donation revenue to fund capital projects rather than operations
    • have a sustainable human resource plan
