General Financial Bursaries and Fee Reductions

Image by Michelle Taekema   Through the generosity of our donors, SALTS provides trip funding for young people who are in financial need and face challenging life situations such as family breakdown, bereavement, recent immigration, learning challenges, catastrophic loss, youth considered at risk and those without opportunities to participate in life enriching experiences. In 2019, SALTS distributed over $150,000 of funding to 167 trainees!

At SALTS, we understand that many families are stretched when it comes to providing worthwhile opportunities for their kids and "financial need" may include those who might not otherwise ask for assistance. The bursary committee will review applications and issue bursary awards until designated funds are exhausted, so be sure to register and apply early!  The amount awarded will be based on eligibility criteria, demonstrated need (including combined household income up to $119K) and extenuating circumstances.

Applicants must agree to perform at least one hour of volunteer service to a charitable organization for every $100 of bursary funding they receive and send a thank you letter describing their SALTS trip experience to be shared with bursary donors following their trip.

Bursary applications are only accepted after a trip has been assigned.  The Information and Application Guide can be requested within the online Trip Request form or downloaded as a PDF below.
