Educator Day Sails
These day sails will provide a taste of SALTS’ multi-day group trip experience. Spend some time on the water seeing firsthand how experiential learning on a traditional wooden schooner incorporates physical activity, connection to and care for others, immersion in the natural world, and more.Who can join a SALTS Educator Day Sail?
- Current educators of grades 8-12
- It takes all hands to sail a tall ship, so physical agility and mental alertness are necessary to safely participate. (Please review our Day Sail Fitness Requirements to determine if an Educator Day Sail is a fitting activity for you.)
- No sailing experience necessary!

What to expect:
- A pre-sail watch group orientation and safety instructions
- Opportunities to learn how the outdoor education and experiential learning that take place onboard SALTS trips contribute to student growth
- Hauling lines and sail handling
- Standing watch at the bow or helm
- An opportunity to take the wheel and steer the ship
- Climb the rigging if you like!
- Take in views of the Victoria shoreline and Olympic Peninsula

Fitness Requirements
Everyone who sails with SALTS is considered a "trainee" and will take an active part in sailing the ship. Although no previous experience is necessary, physical agility and mental alertness are essential for safe participation. Please review our Day Sail Fitness Requirements to be sure that a SALTS day sail is a suitable activity prior to registering.
Registration
The first step is to submit the online Day Sail Reservation Request to let us know which day sail(s) you are interested in. Sailings will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis according to the date and time the online request was received. If your first choice trip is full, you will have the option of accepting your next available choice and remaining on the wait list for your preferred trip.
Any more than 2 participants from the same school will initially be waitlisted and invited to join as space allows.
Cancellation
If you must cancel, please provide as much notice as possible It would be a shame for your berth to go empty because there is not time to fill it.
