Become a Member (or renew membership)SALTS is a registered charity federally and a non-profit Society in the province of BC. Memberships in our Society are available to individuals, families, and companies who are deeply supportive of and passionate about our mission: to develop the spiritual, relational, and physical potential of young people through sail training, shipboard life, and associated activities in a Christian environment.
Though members receive a discount on day sail participation, the only reason to become a member of SALTS is to support the mission of SALTS. It ends up costing more to take out a membership and go on a day sail (even with the discount) than it does to just go on a day sail as a member of the public. This is intentional so that membership is always out of altruistic motives.
Members are able to vote at our annual general meeting on important matters, including the election of members of our Board of Directors. They play an essential part by forming the legal entity that holds the Board and Executive Director accountable for good stewardship and the fulfillment of our mission.
Memberships Types:Membership dues are paid each year for the calendar year and are partially (50%) tax-deductible. A tax receipt will be issued for the membership fee less the value of the day sail discount that is available to members (whether or not the discount is used, as required by the Canada Revenue Agency). New membership fees paid before Sept. 15 in a given year will result in a membership expiry date of Dec. 31 that same year. New membership fees paid after Sept. 15 will result in a membership expiry date of Dec. 31 the following year.
