WHY YOUR DONATION MATTERS
Young people are the future of society, and they need mentorship from caring adults to help them find their way. Our programs show teens and young adults the value of hard work, real-life (off-screen) adventures, and overcoming challenges. We help them understand their full potential, and encourage them in a close community where they are valued and accepted for who they are. We're all about "training young people, by the sea, for life."

HOW YOUR DONATION HELPS
  • Donations left undesignated (or allocated for "where most needed") rather than for a specific cause give our leaders the most flexibility to ensure every gift is used in the most effective way. Our spending is limited to Board-approved programs and purchases. For example, our Board may choose to use undesignated gifts to fund bursaries, complete schooner upgrade projects, meet other capital needs, or internally restrict those funds for our new schooner project.
  • Donations can be designated to bursaries for young people with financial needs or those going through challenging life situations. Bursary recipients are selected either through an open application process or via our partnerships with many schools and youth-oriented charities. In recent years we have been able to provide over $100,000 annually in bursary funding thanks to a generous five-year grant (2013-2017). With this grant ending as scheduled, more bursary donations are now needed to ensure that we "leave no one on the dock."
  • Donations can be directed towards schooner maintenance and upgrade projects. These will prolong the life of our schooners Pacific Swift and Pacific Grace, and enhance the  trainee experience and safety.
We are a registered charity in Canada (BN 119133619BC0001) and we have tax exempt (FORGN) status in the USA. Our finances are audited annually by Grant Thornton LLP.  Donors are encouraged to seek the advice of an independent financial professional regarding any charitable gifts that might have a significant impact on their finances. Gifts designated toward an approved program will be used as designated with the understanding that when a given need has been met, gifts will be used where needed most.

The amazing experience that is a tall ship voyage with SALTS came not only in the 10-day voyage itself, but in the people I spent it with.  I came for the wildlife and waterfalls.  I will come back for the people I experienced them with.
